Yes! I wanted to take the bull by the horns and propose to the man I loved because I felt it was the right thing to do.

Little did I know that my 45th birthday was being planned as my last on earth!

We were having what I thought was the best dinner on earth when, five minutes into the dinner, I decided to propose to the love of my life. I had barely gone down on my knee with the ring in my hand when I slowly began to feel faint and soon lost consciousness.

I woke up after God alone knows how long inside a thick forest in the middle of the night.

Disoriented, I tried to rise up from where I was lying and found out I had been tied up and was also n@k3d.

Fear rose in my mouth as I looked around again and found I was alone inside the thick forest. I was tied up on something that looked like a pile of firewood set up to roast something.

I started screaming and calling out Wunmi’s name for help. I must have screamed for a few minutes before I saw a light from a torch and two men walk in. They pressed the torch against my eyes, blinding me momentarily in the process, before speaking to each other…

“This one is now awake. It is time for the sacrifice. Go and call baba and her husband.”

The one who had been instructed nod and disappeared into the bushes. I stared at the face of the man with the torch with the fear in my eyes and spoke to him…

“Please who are you? What am I doing here? Where am I”?

He didn’t say anything to me for a few moments before he spit at the ground beside me and spoke in a thick accent I couldn’t detect.

“You better keep quiet, woman. You are now a sacrifice and very soon, you will be with your ancestors”

I couldn’t believe my ears. Me? Sacrifice? For what?

“Stop wasting your energy and start praying to God for forgiveness for your sins in this world. It is all over for you”.

Before he finished speaking, another set of lights came into the clearing where I had been tied up and I saw an elderly man and woman, both dressed like herbalists and, lo and behold, Wunmi and Adebola!
