WAEC Opens Applications for Recruitment of Nigerians, sets May 25 Deadline

The West African Examinations Council has opened applications for multiple job positions across its Nigerian operations.

This was disclosed in an official notice issued by the Council’s Human Resource Management Department (HRMD), which called on qualified Nigerians to apply for roles across various functional areas.

The positions cut across administration, finance, information and communication technology, audit, and secretarial services.

What WAEC is saying 

WAEC said it is seeking qualified and capable candidates to fill roles across a range of technical and administrative functions within the organisation.

  • The recruitment covers nine roles, including Examinations Officers in general duties, accounts, and ICT, as well as Assistant Examinations Officers and Confidential Secretaries.
  • Applications are to be completed online via its official recruitment portal, with the Council noting that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
  • The application process is currently ongoing and will close on May 25, 2026.
  • Applicants are also required to meet an age limit of not more than 40 years as of the closing date.

WAEC outlined that educational requirements vary depending on the role.

  • For officer-level positions, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in relevant disciplines, along with NYSC discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificates.
  • For assistant-level roles, applicants are required to have a National Diploma or NCE in related fields.
  • The Council added that all applicants must have a minimum of five credits in WASSCE/SSCE, including English Language and Mathematics, and must be computer literate.
  • Some roles, particularly in accounts and ICT, may require or favour candidates with relevant professional certifications.

The West African Examinations Council is one of the largest examination bodies in West Africa, responsible for conducting major secondary school examinations, including the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

  • The recruitment comes as the Council continues to strengthen its administrative and technical capacity, particularly in ICT and examination management, amid growing candidate numbers across the region.
  • In recent years, WAEC has increased its focus on digital processes, including computer-based testing and improved result processing systems, as part of efforts to enhance efficiency and credibility in its operations.
  • Recently, the Council released the results of 10,480 candidates for the 2026 Computer-Based WASSCE for private candidates, showing that 32.72% of candidates obtained five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, reflecting an improvement from previous years.

The examination was conducted between January 28 and February 14, 2026, across 166 centres nationwide, with marking carried out in Lagos, Enugu, and Kaduna by over 600 examiners.
