Osun Election: ‘Battle Is Between Adeleke and Tinubu, Not APC’ — Dele Momodu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has described Saturday’s Osun State governorship election as a battle between Governor Ademola Adeleke and the influence of President Bola Tinubu.

Momodu made the remark on Wednesday while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

According to the veteran journalist and politician, the All Progressives Congress (APC) does not have the political strength to directly challenge Adeleke in Osun State.

He argued that the real contest is between the incumbent governor and the political influence of the Tinubu-led Federal Government.

“The battle in Osun is not a contest between Adeleke and the APC; it is between Adeleke and President Bola Tinubu. APC is no match for Adeleke in Osun.

“Everybody agrees on that. They can make all the noise and hullabaloo, but I can tell you today that even the presidency knows. I have a lot of friends in APC; they know they cannot match Ademola Adeleke,” Momodu said.

His comments come amid heightened political activity across Osun as political parties make last-minute efforts to win voters ahead of the August 15 poll.

Governor Adeleke, who is seeking a second term, is facing the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and other contenders in what has become a closely watched governorship election.

Momodu had earlier publicly declared his support for Adeleke, despite being a member of the ADC.

He had argued that opposition parties should unite behind the incumbent governor to prevent the APC from gaining control of the state.

With campaigns reaching their final stage, political leaders across the major parties have continued to trade accusations and rally supporters as Osun voters prepare to decide who will govern the state for the next four years.
