Was it love made in heaven? Was it a covenant sealed by the architect of the universe Himself? What else could explain why a husband and wife left this world the same day, hours apart?

Anxiety has gripped Odogbolu, Ogun State, after a tragedy that has left the ancient town weeping, whispering, and wondering.

Chief Kabiru Rasaq, the revered herbalist popularly known as Amigboro – the Oluwo Ifa of Odogbolu – died on Friday after an unsuccessful surgery at an undisclosed hospital.

Hours later, his beloved wife, Kehinde, a petty trader known for her gentle smile, followed him into eternity. She slumped after hearing the news of her husband’s death and never rose again.

One surgery. One piece of news. Two graves.

On Sunday, the community was still in shock, mourning and disbelief hanging thick in the air like incense.

Social media was awash with grief over the weekend.

“We announce with deep sorrow the passing of the Oluwo Ifa of Odogbolu and his beloved wife. Both husband and wife left us on the same day. It’s a painful loss to the Amigboro and Ojurongbe families and the entire Odogbolu community,” Facebook user Fadipe Gbenro wrote on Saturday, triggering an outpouring of prayers and condolences.

A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity told our correspondent: “The incident actually happened on Friday, and from what I heard, the Oluwo of Ikosa died after undergoing surgery at an undisclosed hospital.

“Some people thereafter came to inform his wife of the sad news, and that was how the wife, a petty trader, fainted and was said to have been rushed to the hospital, but she did not survive.”

In Odogbolu today, the question on every lip is not just how they died, but why the bond was so strong that not even death could keep them apart for a day.

Lovers in life. Lovers in death.
