The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, has warned against a northern presidential ticket in 2027, saying it is still the turn of the South.

Kwankwaso spoke on Sunday during an interactive session with journalists at his residence in Kano.

He specifically cautioned former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress, ADC, against disrupting the zoning arrangement.

“Although zoning is not in the constitution, common sense says if one part has done two terms, the other should be allowed,” he said.

He warned that fielding a northern candidate now would hurt peaceful coexistence and create disharmony.

Kwankwaso urged Atiku to shelve his ambition and support Peter Obi to complete the South’s remaining tenure.

He disclosed that he sacrificed his own presidential ambition after contesting three times to allow Obi to emerge.

“I sacrificed my ambition for Peter Obi because he is credible and from the South. We share common goals and ideology. We are strong and can manage the affairs of this country with ease,” Kwankwaso said.

“What is happening in the ADC will not help us. Some people want to create confusion by bringing a candidate from the North, knowing fully well that it is still the turn of the South. After Obi presidency it will return to the north,” he added.

The Kwankwasiyya leader said for equity and balance, Obi should be given the chance to lead the country.
