Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing has taken a swipe at individuals chasing social media prestige under the guise of being “Lagos big girls,” labelling their lifestyles as a superficial illusion driven by online aesthetics.

In a post shared on her Snapchat story on Friday, the actress distanced herself from social media validation, declaring that she prefers to quietly enjoy her resources rather than live a fake life to impress the public.

Blessing mocked those clamouring to associate with high-society personas in Lagos, noting that many who present a wealthy image online are secretly battling financial distress behind closed doors.

“Na una want be friends with self-acclaimed Lagos big girls by force; people wey be say na online aesthetic want wound them. The moment you go close, you go too pity them,” she wrote in Pidgin English.

Rejecting the societal pressure to maintain a lavish public persona, the actress humorously described herself as a “Yankee broke girl” who prioritises personal space and freedom over public perception.

“Me, I be Yankee broke girl, I no kuku identify with anything big girl. Make I sha dey see food chop and ticket money to fly round the world… who get pass me no concern me,” Blessing stated.

Despite downplaying her status, Blessing boasted of her underlying financial strength, asserting that true wealth does not depend on posting material possessions on social media platforms.

“The pressure to belong to the so-called Lagos big girls can never be for someone like me that likes my space, but when matter of N100m to N200m sup, we go chest am without flinching… ‘Cus we no dey post lifestyle; dem go call us broke,” she added.

Blessing’s outburst comes amid heightening online scrutiny and public feuds over social media perception within the Nigerian entertainment space.

PUNCH reports that the high-society “big girl” culture recently took centre stage following a public fallout between The Real Housewives of Lagos co-stars Adeola “Diiadem” Adeyemi and Dabota Lawson.

The former close friends exchanged heated claims on social media over fake financial gestures, including a returned ₦5m birthday alert, alleged blog leaks, business funding disputes, and the pressure of public perception.

This is not the first time the actress has tackled public perception and online judgment.

PUNCH reported on Monday that she slammed critics shaming women over marital status and childlessness, warning social media users against judging individuals whose personal struggles and quiet battles remain hidden from the public eye.
