Obinna had stared at me again, his eyes searching through mine. I waited. And he dropped the bomb.
“I am going to give you fifty million naira. But I must sleep with your wife, Nkiru. Five times. Starting from this coming Valentine day.”
I had stared at my brother with my mouth hanging wide opened.
Obinna wants to have sx* with Nkiru! A woman he followed me to go and marry! A woman who has given me two children already. And he himself is a married man!
I just couldn’t believe my ears!
“Obinna, you want to sleep with my wife?”
Obinna had nodded at me, his expression calm. “Yes. I want to sleep with her five times. And I will pay ten million naira each time. That makes it a total of fifty million naira.”
I still felt I was in a dream.
I just walked up and left his presence, went to meet Nkiru and took her hand before we left the house. She was surprised and wanted to know what the problem was but I didn’t say anything until we got to the house. After I told her what Obinna had asked of me, she was very angry and even cursed Obinna.
I remember having to go down on my knees to beg her to forgive Obinna. That is to show you how angry my wife was.
I decided there and then never to have anything to do with Obinna ever again.
I stayed away from him until he left the village this past January for his base in Abuja.
One week after he left the village, Nkiru left the village for the Onitsha market to get her goods which had arrived from Lagos, as usual.
It was her usual practice to travel to Onitsha from our town every now and then to get her goods from the warehouse in Onitsha. She would leave for Onitsha and spend like three days to a week before returning with plenty goods and even money.
She usually made me very happy once she returns from Onitsha.
Everything about her travel was as usual. Until three days later when I got a call from someone I didn’t know and the person told me something that shocked me.
“Your wife is lying to you. If you are a man, check yourself! Stop being a fool”.
Before I could find out who the person was, he had cut the call. I was bothered by the message and was scared it was coming from kidnappers.
An hour later, the person called again and said, “Your brother is lying to you. Wake up and check yourself”.
I was angry at this time because of this person’s call. I was about to shout at the person when he cut the call and then sent me a text message; Go to Onitsha now. Check Hotel De Rosa. You will know the truth.
I tried calling Nkiru after the text message but she would not pick. After several tries, she sent me a message that she was busy and would call me back.
I waited but something kept pushing me to go to the address in the text message.
So very early in the morning of the next day, that was on the 30th of January, 2021, I left the village and went to Onitsha. I got to the hotel in question and just as I was stepping into the compound, who did I see?
My brother, Obinna and Nkiru, my wife, seated by the poolside and k!s$!ng and necking like old time lovers.
I don’t know how long I stood there watching them until Nkiru turned and saw me and jumped away from Obinna. Obinna turned too and when he saw me he just stared at me for a second or two before he started walking towards me.
I turned and ran away.
I felt like going to the expressway and putting myself in the front of a moving trailer.
I so wanted to die.
I returned to my house and two days later, Obinna came to my compound with two men I didn’t know. He came to make me an offer.
He wanted me to leave Nkiru for him and he would still give me the fifty million naira or I should approve for him to always have sx* with her anytime I wanted for him to bless me with wealth.
He claimed he loved Nkiru and had been sleeping with her right from the first day I had introduced her to him as the woman I wanted to marry.
I didn’t know when I started crying.
How could my own brother do this to me? Something I only saw in movies was happening to me!
I walked them out of my house. That was two weeks ago and Valentine had come and gone.
Even though I didn’t have much money, I had planned something romantic, though small, for me and my wife this Valentine.
Now, this Valentine 2021 is my darkest period.
Nkiru has moved away from me to become Obinna’s concubine.
Obinna’s wife told me she had been aware of Obinna having an affair with my wife. I was the only one who didn’t know what was going on.
I was the only fool!
So here I am.
Alone.
Sad.
Miserable!
For all this, God will punish Obinna and Nkiru for me!!!
