World of Pornstars Turned Content Creators

A growing number of Nigerian adult film stars are reshaping their public images by expanding beyond pornography and positioning themselves as digital content creators, influencers and entrepreneurs on social media. TOFARATI IGE takes a look at some of them

Uglygalz

Marimi Edet, aka Uglygalz’s career began in Nigeria’s underground adult entertainment industry. But in recent times, she has increasingly embraced mainstream social media platforms to engage with her followers and seemingly diversify her sources of income.

She came to the attention of many when she appeared on the ‘Outside the Box’ podcast, where she stated that she was acting porn because of her mental health. She narrated that because of her family’s displeasure with the path she had chosen to follow, they forcefully took her to a rehabilitation centre. She added, “How does what I do translate to me having mental health disorder? The funny thing is that when I stopped doing it (acting porn), I became even more depressed.”

Speaking on yet another podcast, Edet boldly gave the only condition on which she could stop acting porn.

“I need someone who can satisfy me in the bedroom for the rest of my life, anytime I want it, whenever I want it, and then I may think about stopping adult film. I have never been in any relationship, but I have people I love to sleep with.”

Contrary to what many might expect, she also stated that the “job” had not been financially rewarding for her.

She said, “No money yet. They have been stealing my money. My family steals my money. They are strong and spiritual people and have a punishment for me doing porn. They will just make me do it and be happy, but I will not see the fruit of the labour until they forgive me. They have forgiven me; that’s why I am on this podcast. Otherwise, I would still lock myself inside the house.”

However, in another interview with Daily Independent in 2020, she sang a different tune, stating that the business was lucrative, and she paid her taxes from it.

“The business is very lucrative, I have saved a lot and I help people by contributing to society. With the rate at which I am going, they would legalise it in Nigeria. I pay tax from my porn videos.

“I started two years ago officially; but before then, I used to do video calls with my clients. I used to send them naked videos. I enjoyed what I was doing so I decided to take it a step further by producing movies instead of only video calls.

“I have tried to look for jobs but I didn’t succeed at it; coupled with the fact that many bosses were interested in sleeping with me. When I started my career, my parents didn’t know about it; but few months ago, my parents got to know about it through my cousin who wanted to blackmail me to sleep with him. I rejected his advances, so he informed my parents and sister,” she said.

Striking a defiant tone, the pornstar stated that she harboured no regrets as regards her career path, saying, “If I have to come back to this world, what I am doing now, I will still do it again.”

Unlike in the past when pornstars often stayed hidden in the shadows, Edet is playing by a different set of rules. She is active on social media and unapologetic about the things she posts.

On TikTok, she sometimes posts pictures taken from clips of her adult content. In one post, she posted a picture of her and four men, ostensibly before they recorded a scene that had her having sex with all of them at once.

In other posts, she showed pictures of other adult content creators she has acted with.

Didee

On social media, Didee describes herself as a digital creator with interests in selfcare and lifestyle. On Instagram and TikTok, she has cultivated a sizeable social media following by posting videos about her routine as a content creator, while also sharing tips about her work with artificial intelligence.

However, for many others, they know her more as the fair-skinned adult content creator that is popular on X Videos. Over the years, she has worked with several co-adult content creators.

In a recent post on social media, she spoke on the importance of learning AI. She said, “If you think you have missed the AI opportunity, you need to listen to this. They said the same thing about social media; yet, every year, thousands of people learn those skills, and use them to build successful careers. The opportunities presented by AI are not over; they are actually growing. The difference between those who benefit and those who don’t is not luck. You don’t need to know everything, you just need a place to start. That’s exactly why I created the ‘Learn AI and make money Live Class’. I will help you understand what AI really is.”

In another post, she shared with her followers that she had built her first AI workflow tool. She described it as a “simple weather workflow”, which automatically checks the Lagos weather every morning at 6am, and sends her a notification.

In yet another post, she wondered why some people were “obsessed with marriage” stating that “I don’t even understand the concept of living a miserable life all because you want to marry. Leave marriage for people that want to be married.”

Didee also stated that she was now at a point in her life where she was making the type of money she used to think only a man could give her.

From her posts, it is obvious that she holds her family in high esteem. At different times, she celebrated her dad on Father’s Day, while also sharing videos of herself attending church with family members, including her parents.

Hinting at the fact that she had to rebuild her life, she wrote in another post, “If the topic is about healing and rebuilding my life, I’ll sit and tell you how I had to pick myself up, piece by piece, on days I didn’t feel strong enough to try. Somehow, I’m still becoming someone I’m proud of, one step at a time.”

Celebrating her mum on Mother’s Day, she stated that being content saved her from peer pressure. According to her, those were some of the values she learnt from her mum.

She further maintained that she had no regrets, writing, “I don’t regret the choices I’ve made, even the ones that had me like wow girl what was that. I don’t do revenge or payback; I just take my lesson, cut my losses, and move on. Every experience taught me something, boundaries, self worth, when to leave, when to stay quiet. No shame, just growth.”

Meanwhile, Didee went viral on the Internet in 2025 when pictures of her in her graduation gown surfaced online. Following the backlash and comments recalling her days of acting porn, she wrote, “I am educated. I made a decision and I stand by that decision. I studied Biochemistry but I created a life that I wanted on my own terms. My choice wasn’t about lack. It was about freedom. It was about having control. Yes, about money, too. Because let’s be honest, I have bills.

“Most of you know me, the viral version of me, the trending topic, the B.Sc. graduate who Nigeria failed, who became a porn star. You’ve seen the post, you’ve heard the lies. They call me a fraud. They say I’m living a double life. They have dragged my name like they know me. But the truth is they really don’t.

“But here is what people don’t get. I am not hiding it. Honestly, I am showing exactly how I want to show up. I can be both soft and strong. I can be sexual and I can also be smart.

“I am not defending myself. I am saying my truth. I am only owning my own truth. Nobody else knows my truth. Only me.”

Her audience actively engages with her posts, often complimenting her appearance and personality, while others use the opportunity to express differing views about adult entertainers seeking wider acceptance on mainstream platforms.

Although her transition has apparently provided new opportunities for her, it has not erased the stigma attached to adult entertainment. She constantly faces criticism from sections of the public who believe her past career should limit her mainstream visibility.

Asari Xoxo

In an interview that made the rounds on social media, adult content creator, Asari Xoxo, stated that for one to make it big in the porn industry, the person has to be hardworking.

Introducing herself, she said, “My name is Asari. I am a pornstar, and celeb in the adult entertainment industry. I am a brand influencer and model.”

Revealing how she got into the industry, she said, “First, it was the situation, but now, it is no longer that.

“I don’t really have an excuse for what got me into the industry because if I say that I was going through hard times, people would say that I’m not the only one with that type of experience. I got raped and I almost lost myself. There were two options before me: do this (porn) and better yourself, or stay and remain broke. I decided to better myself, and I went into it.”

Describing her experience in the industry, she said, “At first, it was tough, but it isn’t anymore. The way people talked down on me and made me feel like I don’t deserve anything anymore. Now, I don’t think about what people say anymore. The only people I care about are my family members. They have never been happy with me since the day I went viral.”

Asked about the highest amount of money she had made in the industry, she stated that a particular video earned her N15m.

On the negative sides of the profession, she said, “This industry will take away your original image. People will see the slutty side of you but refuse to see the wife material or churchy side of you. I used to be a regular churchgoer.”

According to her, anyone who wants to get into the industry has to be mentally strong, because of the negative comments they would have to deal with daily.

Speaking on the impact her career choice has had on her family, she stated that her brother, who is a pastor, often feels bad whenever she is the topic of discussion on social media. She however stated that she tried to make him understand that even though they were siblings, they had different paths to follow in life, asking him not to “feel guilty about my mistakes”.

She further stated that she now had a better relationship with her family members because she had explained her life choices better to them.

On social media, especially Instagram, Asari often posts sultry photos, as well as clips from her adult content shoots. Unapologetic in her social media persona, she maintains an active online presence, frequently sharing lifestyle photographs, and behind-the-scenes clips. Her posts regularly generate lots of reactions, with supporters praising her confidence while critics question her career choices.

Gray Africana

For Gray Africana, having sex on camera is the easiest part of being an adult content creator. In her interview on the Yomi Listens podcast that went viral, she added, “I am planning to have sex with 36 men, each representing the different states in Nigeria.”

Recounting her childhood experience, she said, “Growing up was very tough. I didn’t get to see my parents even though they were alive. My mum just left me with a friend, without telling the friend that she would be gone for a very long time. It wasn’t until 17 years later before she came back when I was graduating from secondary school.”

She added that because of the lack of parental guidance, she often roamed the streets, recalling that she had experienced rape attempts four times, though she claimed to have stabbed one of the persons that tried to take advantage of her. According to her, she could not survive the trauma of being raped.

She further stated, “I never wanted to be a porn star. Even now, I am not a porn star; I just act porn.”

On the difference between both, she said, “Being a porn star, you would have money. There was a time I was supposed to work with Asake, but when they found out I act porn, they cancelled the job. Meanwhile, if I was a porn star, brands would be begging me to feature in their shoots.

Mami Igbagbo

Elizabeth Ajibola, popularly known as Mami Igbagbo, became the topic of discussion on many lips in 2024 when she stated that she had quit acting pornography and had “given her life to Christ”.

In a post on her X page, she announced her retirement, writing, “I am retiring from the adult entertainment industry. It’s been an amazing journey.”

Appearing in a white garment and clutching a Bible, she hinted that she was ready for another phase of her life.

According to a report by Guardian Newspaper, she had gone viral before that when she appeared on content creator, Nons Miraj’s talk show, and introduced herself thus, “I am a porn star, an international porn star and I want a man that is going to be helping me into this my new version, a porn star. I have got a lot of natural talents. I need you to be with me.”

While on the show, she was asked about her body count and she responded, “Let me just say, one thousand people.”

In a recent post on her Instagram page, she wrote, “Got my life back. The life I had before porn. Innocent butterfly, sober, beautiful and spiritually gifted.”

In another post about a week ago, she stated that after her repentance, a popular porn channel, Bang Bros, had approached her for a collaboration. She wrote, “Na now wey I repent Bang Bros wan collaborate. Which kain test be this?”

In another post, she posted a picture of a book ostensibly written by her and titled, “Sacred Exposure”. She added the caption, “Not every silence is weakness. Some silence is survival. Some silence is transformation. This book explains it. Sacred Exposure: From Silence To Awakening.”

Tall Lizzy

Born Elizabeth Daniel, she is better known by her moniker, Tall Lizzy, especially by millions of fans who watch her adult content on sites such as X Videos.

She has expanded her online footprint to social media with her uploads routinely attracting hundreds of likes and comments. On her Instagram page, she describes herself as a “Nigerian adult movie star, actress, model, and public figure”

She also regularly posts pictures of herself and co-actors taken on the set of their adult content shoot. This is in addition to other posts where she discusses different topics, such as “Men are polygamous in nature”. In that clip, she stated that there was no scientific evidence that “men are polygamous”, stating that on the contrary, women are supposed to be more polygamous. She also argued that many women in this part of the world had been groomed into believing that their worlds revolved around men.

In a recent post, she gave a glimpse into her future ambitions, writing, “Dear me, in the next five years, I will be who I have always wanted to be…a very successful and impactful Nollywood actress. From my mouth to God’s ears.”

In another post, she stated that she had made far more money from her YouTube page than she did for her adult contents.

Responding to some of her critics in another video, she stated that she could get married at the age of 40 if she wanted to, despite the comments of some people that she could never find a husband because her sex videos littered the Internet. She, however, said, “Of all the things I want to achieve, marriage is not on the list.” She added that money is more important to her.

Recalling how she got into the adult content industry, she stated that she initially had plans to join Nollywood, but a filmmaker “took advantage” of her, though she later added that she “consented to everything because I wanted to be famous.”

In another video, she opined that male adult content actors enjoyed more because they got paid for enjoying sex, whereas in the real world, “many men pay to have sex.”

She however added that the females enjoyed more of “direct fan support”. She stated that she often got monetary gifts from her male fans from all over the world.

On the negative aspects, she stated that she constantly nursed the fear of bringing children into the world who would suffer mentally for the consequences of her actions. According to her, “It has affected me in many ways.”
