Tell us briefly about yourself
I am a hardworking gentleman who loves to always take advantage of any business opportunity. My experience of life has driven me to see life from a different perspective and I, therefore, live my life one day at a time as if it’s my last day on earth. I love to travel; hence I have visited so many countries. I love cars, so I am always attending Motor shows and trying out different cars.

I am a dedicated fan of F1 motor sports and travel across the globe to attend the Grand Prix. I work as an IT consultant in the financial industry in the United Kingdom. I am involved in a few small-scale businesses both in the United Kingdom and Nigeria.

Tell us about your birth and family background

I was born and named Oluwafolajimi Oluwafemi Olawanle Akinbolusire in Leicester, United Kingdom in August 1969 to Mr. Amos Akinyolemi Akinduyilemi Akinbolusire (deceased) and Mrs. Christianah Anike Moromoke Akinbolusire (Nee Akindoyeni), both from Ile-Oluji. I have since changed my name to Jimi Oluwafemi Bolusire.

What was childhood like?
I started my childhood days in the UK and relocated to Nigeria in 1975 when my parents completed their education. Because my parents kept moving around, I ended up attending six primary schools. I spent a couple of years in Lagos before moving to Araromi Obu in Ondo State where I spent almost a year before we moved to Ile-Oluji, Ondo State in 1978 where I met most of my cousins, aunties, uncles, and grandparents. It was a great experience living in the community where my parents grew up.  I attended St. George’s Pry School.

In 1979, we moved to Ibadan where I completed my primary school education at Immanuel College in 1981 and proceeded to Urban Day Grammar School, Old Ife Road, Ibadan afterward. I also did further education in Ibadan before leaving for the United Kingdom. Interestingly, the current CEO of First Bank, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, was my classmate at the time, and when I visited him at home in Ikoyi recently, we had a good time remembering the school days.

I completed my secondary school education in 1986 with a WAEC result that got me into The Polytechnic, Ibadan to study OND Architecture. My mission was to return to the UK to study. I later discovered that I needed either A’ Levels or BTec (the equivalent of OND) to gain admission into a university in the UK. Hence, I aimed for OND Architecture. I completed the OND in the Upper Credit category, and I was the best student in the 1988 set. I gained admission into the Polytechnic of East London to study B.Sc. Architecture.

Upon graduation in 1993, I realised I could not operate as an Architect the way I planned due to a different structure here in the UK. I went back to study B.Sc. Land Management to become a Chartered Surveyor and graduated in 1996. My first job after graduation was with a Global Information Technology Consultancy company and after eight years of hard work, I decided to enroll for an M.Sc. in Business Information Systems and graduated in 2007. As a data-specialised IT Consultant, I am currently doing my D.Sc. Programme in Data Science.

What is it like to be a self-employed professional in the UK? What are the prospects and challenges?

It is never easy to work, let alone be self-employed. As a coloured skin person in the UK, there are limits to what one can attain, but I believe that with dedication, diligence, and hard work, there is always a reward. It is important for one to always update one’s skills as technology and processes are changing rapidly. To stay on top of the game, you need to update yourself. I have been self-employed for almost 20 years in the IT Industry, I have been able to establish a workable network that helps me to progress and creates continuity for me and my business. There are lots of Nigerians doing very well here and gives the younger generation hope that the top heights are obtainable.

Where did you work before setting up your practice?

I worked with several consultancy firms. This helped to establish myself and made me understand how a consultancy should be run. The last firm I worked with before starting my consultancy was Sema Group which afterward became Atos Origin, but has since been taken over by Schlumberger. I worked on various government projects and became a senior consultant before I left. My consultancy is known as Imij Associates.
