Why I Panicked after Davido Stopped Talking to Me – Mayorkun

Nigerian singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has recounted how Afrobeats star Davido eventually signed him after allegedly leaving him without a response for two weeks.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Mayorkun said he had quit his banking job after Davido expressed interest in signing him, having come across a video of him singing online.

However, the singer said he became worried when Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, stopped communicating with him for two weeks.

Mayorkun explained that the silence left him uncertain about his future, prompting him to seek spiritual intervention and begin attending church, trusting that God would help him through the situation.

He recalled that on a particular day, after leading a praise and worship session at church, he received a message from Davido.

According to Mayorkun, the singer contacted him shortly after the session and asked him to move into his house, paving the way for his eventual signing to Davido Music Worldwide (DMW).

“Davido stopped replying to me for two weeks after I quit my banking job. I started going to church, and one day, immediately after singing praise and worship, he texted me on WhatsApp to pack my luggage and come to his house. It was more than a testimony.

“You may not believe me but I haven’t even returned to my seat after leading the praise and worship before he messaged. I was on my way to my seat. Before then, I was in panic because I wasn’t sure whether Davido would talk to me again,” he stated.
