The Chairperson, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM, Mrs. Abike Dabiri, has confirmed evacuated Nigerians from Sudan would arrive Cairo, Egypt on Thursday.

Giving update on the evacuation process of Nigerians by road due to the civil unrest in Sudan, Dabiri has also confirmed that 13 buses, which left Khartoum, Sudan on Wednesday embarked on a 28 hours road trip and are expected to arrive Egypt today.

“13 buses left Khartoum yesterday and we are working on more. The journey is about 28 hours, if it’s a straight journey and because it’s a very long-distance journey, they will have to rest and continue the journey,” she said.

She also noted the process has been frustrated with some legal challenges as some stranded Nigerians who wants to be evacuated have no legal documents.

“There is a legal challenge. Yes there are 3500 evacuation process, but many Nigerians are coming around to be evacuated without any formal documentation. But we still pray that the ceasefire in Sudan becomes a permanent ceasefire,” she said.

Speaking on adequate security for evacuated Nigerians, Dabiri revealed there was a talk with the divided parties in Sudan who assured that no Nigerians will be hurt in the evacuation process and Egpyt government also provided security.


She said: “There are adequate security arrangement for the Nigerians who have embarked on the road trip. Before we got to this stage, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, spoke with the divided parties in Sudan to get their words of assurance that Nigerians will be safe.”
