The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC); Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO); United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Maritime Organisation (WMO) are commemorating the 2022 World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, under the theme, “Rising up from drought together”.
The event holds on Friday, June 17 at 9.30am.
The theme emphasises the need of an early action to avoid disastrous consequences for humanity and the planetary ecosystems.

The United Nations General Assembly by its resolution A/RES/49/115 of 1994, declared 17 June “World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought” to promote public awareness of efforts to combat desertification, and to remind everyone that land degradation neutrality is achievable through problem-solving, strong community involvement and co-operation at all levels.
