Police in the United Kingdom have arrested three men following the death of 26-year-old non-league footballer, Ezekiel Williams, who allegedly died after being attacked in Milton Keynes.

Williams, a midfielder with eighth-tier English club Hendon FC, died from his injuries after the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

According to talkSPORT on Wednesday, Thames Valley Police confirmed that a murder investigation had been launched, with two men aged 21 and 28 arrested on suspicion of murder, while a third man, aged 30, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All three suspects are from Luton and remain in police custody.

In a statement, the police said, “Two men, aged 21 and 28, both from Luton, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

“A third man, aged 30 and also from Luton, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All remain in custody.”

The force added that officers would maintain an increased presence around The Hub and the city centre as investigations continued.

“Officers remain in the area and there will continue to be an increased police presence around The Hub and city centre while enquiries continue.

“A dedicated Major Crime Unit investigation is underway,” the statement added.

Williams joined Hendon FC in September and had recently scored his first goal for the club.

The club expressed shock and sadness over his death, describing him as a humble and generous individual who quickly became a popular member of the team.

In a tribute posted on social media, Hendon FC said, “We are stunned and heartbroken to announce the sudden and tragic passing of midfielder Ezekiel Williams aged 26.

“A humble, unassuming and generous individual with a razor-sharp wit.

“Eze joined the club in September and quickly established himself as a highly popular member of the dressing room.”

The club extended its condolences to his family, friends and everyone who knew him.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Ezekiel’s family, friends, and everyone who knew him at this devastating time.

“He will be very sadly missed by all of us at Hendon Football Club,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, Hendon’s London Senior Cup fixture against Woodford Town, scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed following the tragedy.

A GoFundMe appeal has also been launched in memory of Williams to support his family following his death.

Police said investigations were ongoing, while the three arrested men remained in custody.
