Two Nigerian nationals based in Ghana are set to face prosecution over the alleged murder of a fellow Nigerian, Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, whom they reportedly accused of withholding proceeds from suspected internet fraud activities.

The Ghana Police Service disclosed that the suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were arrested by the Northern Regional Police Command after the victim’s body was discovered in his residence at Sanzirigu in Tamale on Saturday.

In a statement issued by the Regional Public Relations Unit on Sunday, the police said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects and another Nigerian, Godwin Nwafor, lived together in a three bedroom apartment.

According to the statement, police launched an investigation after receiving a report that the 36 year old victim was found lying motionless in a pool of blood inside his bedroom.

Investigators who visited the scene reportedly found the deceased with a deep cut on his forehead, while a towel had been stuffed into his mouth. The room was also said to have been ransacked.

Police recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the attack, alongside other exhibits, for forensic examination.

The victim was taken to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical officer before his body was deposited in the hospital mortuary for autopsy.

The statement added that intelligence led operations led to the arrest of the two suspects at Tatale on the same day as they allegedly attempted to flee to the Republic of Togo through the Tatale border.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to conspiring to kill the deceased, claiming he had withheld money generated from their suspected internet fraud operations.

A subsequent search led to the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen from the victim’s room, including mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, clothing, wristwatches, personal documents and other valuables.

The Ghana Police Service said the suspects remain in custody and will be arraigned in court as investigations continue.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that everyone connected to the crime is brought to justice and appealed to members of the public to continue providing credible information to support ongoing crime fighting efforts.
