President Bola Tinubu will address the nation on Thursday, October 1, at 7am to mark Nigeria’s 66th independence anniversary.

A statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser on information and strategy to the president, said all television and radio stations, and other electronic media outlets were advised link up with the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) for the broadcast.

This will be the fourth time Tinubu will address the nation on Independence Day since he assumed office on May 29, 2023.

The Independence Day address by the president has become a tradition to commemorate Nigeria’s independence from British rule on October 1, 1960.

During the nationwide broadcast, the president is expected to discuss the state of the nation and highlight the policies of his administration.

Like last year, the federal government said the 2026 Independence Day celebration would be low-key, with the focus on reflection rather than elaborate festivities.
