A former presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Abdul-Jhalil Tafawa-Balewa, has urged Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He said the President inherited a near-bankrupt nation and is currently trying hard to put things right.
Tafawa-Balewa said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Lagos.

The PDP chieftain stressed that if a nation is near zero, rescuing it and setting it on a path of recovery is always very hard.
He said the President needed to do much more to reposition the country and address its many challenges.
Tafawa-Balewa, a consultant nuclear chemist with specialisation in food preservation, urged President Tinubu to reduce the cost of governance to free up resources for development as a step towards putting things right.
According to him, the President needs to strengthen his cabinet with technocrats to help him actualise his development agenda for Nigeria.
“He (President Tinubu) needs to be able to move with the times and put people that have moved out or have learnt new technologies to be able to manage the different ministries.
“I think we have too many ministries, about 48, that need to be slimmed down because a lot of money is being used to run these ministries.
Tafawa-Balewa also urged the President to work harder on security to end kidnappings, insurgency and other threats.
Also, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau yesterday pleaded with fellow Nigerians to support President Tinubu in addressing the nation’s socio-economic challenges.
Barau made the plea while distributing palliatives at Meena Events Centre in Kano to the seven states in the Northwest.
The Deputy Senate President noted that the current hardship confronting the citizens was not peculiar to Nigeria.
“Usually, whenever a country, anywhere in the world, is going through difficult times, the citizens rally round their leaders to enable them address the challenges.
“In Nigerian, President Bola Tinubu came onboard when there were wars and so many economic factors in many countries across the globe that had and still have negative effects on the nation’s economy.
“However, the Tinubu administration is making tremendous efforts in addressing the problems. Please, let us support the President, let all Nigerians support President Tinubu to enable him navigate the nation out of the current challenges,” he said.
