A former governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Senator Gbenga Aluko is dead.

The Ode Ekiti born politician was said to have died this evening after he collapsed in his office in Abuja.

Report says he was rushed to an hospital where he eventually gave up the ghost.

An aide to the former lawmaker confirmed to Progress FM that Senator Aluko was not ill, and did not exhibit any symptom of sickness.

He was the son of the late economist, Professor Sam Aluko.

He was one of the Governorship Aspirants in the 2018 election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ekiti State.

Senator Gbenga Aluko popularly called “SGA” was a member of the National Assembly between 1999 and 2003 on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party.

Also confirming the sad incident, a chieftain of the APC in the state, Chief Ropo Adesanya, said Senator Aluko was not sick, adding that he was planning to open a mega gas station in Ado-Ekiti, later in December.

Adesanya was, at various times, a former two-term state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former chairman, Board of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State.

He said: “He [Senator Gbenga Aluko] was not sick. He is even building a gas station which he was planning to commission in December. The gas station is a very big one located along Ilawe Road, very close to the Fresh FM Radio Station owned by Yinka Ayefele.

“He spoke with somebody about four hours ago, only to drop dead shortly thereafter. He was said to have had an heart attack. He was rushed to the hospital, but he gave up the ghost before getting any treatment.”
