The Rivers state house of assembly has resolved to investigate the management of the state’s finances during the six-month period when Ibok-Ete Ibas served as sole administrator.

The lawmakers, who resumed plenary on Thursday morning following the lifting of emergency rule, also called on Siminalayi Fubara, the governor, to transmit the 2025 appropriation bill for consideration.
The assembly urged the governor to forward a list of commissioner-nominees for screening and confirmation.

President Bola Tinubu lifted the state of emergency on September 17, restoring all democratic structures in the state.
Martins Amaewhule, the speaker, presided over the sitting held at the conference hall within the legislative quarters, as the main assembly complex remains under reconstruction after it was demolished by the state government months ago.
In his address, Amaewhule commended Tinubu for reinstating democratic institutions in Rivers, assuring that the assembly would cooperate with Fubara.
Tinubu declared emergency rule in the state on March 18 after months of political tension stemming from the feud between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).
The declaration saw the suspension of Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and the legislators for six months.

During that period, Tinubu appointed Ibas to serve as sole administrator of the state.
