Real owner of yacht spotted in France with Nigerian flag

Investigation has revealed that the yacht spotted with the Nigerian flag in St-Tropez, a coastal town in France, actually belongs to a private individual. It was alleged on social media that the yacht belonged to the Nigerian government but was being used for vacation.

Former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, commented on it via X. “In St. Tropez, the crested #GreenWhiteGreen flutters aloft the #YachtForTheAges. At home, it is treason to even see it; say so or tell anyone,” he wrote.

In reaction on Saturday, Otega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Digital and New Media, said on X that the yacht belongs to a private individual and that flags used by the president or armed forces do not contain the coat of arms like the one on the yacht.

TheNiche discovered from credible sources that the yacht belongs to the chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, one of Nigeria’s publicity-shy billionaires.

Rabiu’s business success affords him the luxury of possessing some of the world’s most expensive and prized acquisitions. Sources close to him revealed he has a penchant for grandeur and sophistication despite his quiet lifestyle.

The billionaire jets around the world on an 8-seater Gulfstream G550 worth $44.9 million. The jet is powered by a Rolls-Royce BR710 turbofan engine.

His 8-seater Gulfstream G550 private jet features a comfortable, productive and impeccably equipped cabin with up to four living areas and ample storage space.

Also for ease of travel, Rabiu owns a Legacy 600 business jet which carries 13 passengers in three partitioned sections for 3,050 nautical miles or 8 passengers for 3,450 nautical miles. It was gathered that the businessman has a Bentley, Aston Martin, Armoured Mercedes Benz G-Wagon, Mercedes Benz S-Class and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV parked in his courtyard.

Rabiu’s house in Gloucester Square, London, United Kingdom is reportedly worth about $16 million. The edifice stands as a masterpiece with state-of-the-art facilities.

The business magnate reportedly owns property worth millions of dollars in South Africa. One such is his Penthouse estimated at $12.6 million. His Penthouse offers unparalleled luxury consisting of four bedrooms, indoor and outdoor living areas, exquisite décor and exceptional South African art.

Meanwhile, The Presidency has dissociated itself from a yacht spotted with the Nigerian flag in St-Tropez, a coastal town in France. It was alleged on social media that the yacht belonged to the Nigerian government but was being used for vacation.

The presidential aide said flags used by the president or armed forces do not contain the coat of arms like the one on the yacht. He wrote, “There have been false claims circulating that a private individual’s yacht was spotted in St. Tropez is a Nigerian government yacht. Here are some points to consider in order to discern the truth.

“The 42m Bennetti yacht currently being shared online has been privately owned for around 5 years since it was constructed.

“It is important to note that this specific yacht has no connection or ownership ties to the Nigerian government, president or armed forces. Any claims or assertions suggesting otherwise are simply not true and inaccurate.

“It is not uncommon for luxury yachts to fly the flag of the owner’s country as well as the flag of the country in which they are registered.

“The official Nigerian flag is Green-White-Green without a coat of arms in the middle. Flags representing the Nigerian President or the Armed Forces do not contain a coat of arms in the center. Placing anything in the center of the flag is a clear deviation.”
