Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, SAN, a distinguished lawyer, scholar and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has died at the age of 92.
Kasunmu, a member of the Baptist Academy Class of 1953 and trustee of the Baptist Academy Old Students Association, died peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, August 9, 2026.
The Global President of the Baptist Academy Old Students Association, Olumide Ajomale, announced his death in a statement issued on behalf of the association’s National Executive Council.

Ajomale described the late legal scholar as “a towering figure in law, scholarship, and national development,” noting his contributions as a mentor, scholar and advocate.
“With gratitude to God for a life well spent in service to God and humanity, we announce the passing of our distinguished alumnus, Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, SAN, who departed peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, 9th August 2026 at the age of 92,” the statement read.
The association said Kasunmu embodied the values of Baptist Academy, particularly “Integrity, Discipline, and Service,” and was also a cherished patriarch to his family.
BAOSA said it honoured Kasunmu last year with the BAOSA Order of Excellence Award as one of 170 distinguished old students of Baptist Academy during its 170th Founders Day celebration.
The association added that his “legacy of wisdom, mentorship, and commitment to excellence will continue to inspire generations of Baptacads and Nigerians at large.”
It said it took solace in the life he lived and the numerous people he impacted through his dedication to law, education and humanity.
BAOSA urged old students of the institution worldwide to uphold Kasunmu’s family in prayers during the mourning period.
“Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course,” the statement added.
