Indian actress and former Miss World, Priyanka Chopra has revealed the values she believes have helped her and her 10-year-younger husband, Nick Jonas, maintain their marriage eight years after tying the knot.
Speaking at an event in New York, Priyanka said respecting each other’s culture and understanding their differences had played an important role in keeping their relationship strong.
She explained that cultural differences could become a challenge when partners were unwilling to learn about each other’s backgrounds.

Priyanka highlights respect and kindness
Priyanka Chopra said Nick Jonas’ willingness to embrace her Indian heritage and traditions was particularly meaningful to her. The couple married in India in 2018 in a multi-day wedding that featured both Hindu and Western ceremonies.
The actress said, “I didn’t know I could love him if he didn’t do that,” while discussing Nick’s acceptance of the culture and traditions connected to her homeland.
The couple have since taken part in Indian festivals and traditional activities, while also building a family together. In 2022, they welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie, through surrogacy.
Priyanka also praised Nick’s sincerity, saying his honest approach makes her feel comfortable being herself despite the pressures of life in the entertainment industry.
Nick Jonas sees Priyanka as a teammate
According to Priyanka, kindness and the way partners treat each other daily are just as important as romance in sustaining a marriage.
Nick Jonas has also previously described Priyanka as someone he quickly realised could be his long-term partner, viewing her not only as his wife but also as a teammate through both difficult and successful periods.
After eight years of marriage, the couple continue to raise their daughter while pursuing separate entertainment projects.
Their experience has renewed discussion about how respect, kindness and acceptance of cultural differences can help couples build lasting relationships.
