 Following a disturbing video that circulated online, AIG Fayoade M. Adegoke, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command, has formed a six-member panel to investigate alleged human rights violations at the Maroko Police Station.

The video, which has gone viral, shows a woman claiming she was detained in a cell at the station alongside men and minors.

This incident has sparked widespread concern about potential abuses of power, prompting immediate action by police leadership.

The panel, which will be formally inaugurated by AIG Adegoke on Friday, October 4th, 2024, at the M.D Abubakar Conference Hall, Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, will be led by DCP Ajao S. Adewale, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID).

The Panel Members:

  • DCP Ajao S. Adewale (mnips) is the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID).
  • ACP Ogunsakin Gbenga, Ph.D.: Officer in Charge of Zonal Intelligence Department.
  • Mr. Emma Nnadozie, Group Crime Editor at Vanguard Newspaper.
  • Comrade Prince Adeoye Adewunmi is a human rights activist.
  • Ivy Kanu is a reporter for TVC News.
  • Barrister Mrs. Blessing Afe is a lawyer and social worker.

The panel’s goal is to determine the credibility of the allegations and whether any human rights violations occurred.

This investigation is consistent with the current force leadership’s commitment to protecting human rights and addressing gender concerns.

The Nigerian police force emphasised its commitment to justice and transparency.
