Contrary to media reports making the rounds, Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba, on Tuesday evening has debunked the rumour that the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu stepped aside and handed over Police affairs to Sanusi Lemo.
Lemo is currently serving as the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of operations.
The Force image maker, Mba, who spoke in a telephone conversation simply said: “I am not aware of it.”
With the development, Adamu remains the Inspector General of Police, despite having reached the mandatory 35 years in service as stipulated by the law on Monday.
The last announcement from the Presidency over the matter was from Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu on national television on Monday saying he was unaware of any imminent announcement of a new IGP.
Shehu had said the President, who returns to Abuja on Tuesday, should be should be on his desk by Wednesday, raising expectations that a major announcement may be made in respect to situation.
The President returned to Abuja on Tuesday evening.
The situation has led to speculations from various circles.
