Police Arrest Two for Gruesome Murder of Kano Commentator Danshagamu

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal killing of Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu, the popular political commentator murdered in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area.

Danshagamu was reportedly attacked by suspected hoodlums who forced their way into his residence on Monday night and stabbed him to death.

—Vigilante’s Distress Call—

According to the police, the Command received a distress call about 11:30pm on Monday from the commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group, alerting them to the attack.

Operatives from the Kumbotso Police Division swiftly raced to the scene and rushed the victim to Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital, Kano, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

Following the murder, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, ordered the DPO of Kumbotso and the Command’s tactical units to fish out the killers at all costs.

In a swift, intelligence-driven operation carried out with community stakeholders, two suspects linked to the attack have now been arrested.

Police say the suspects are currently being interrogated as detectives work to uncover the motive behind the killing and whether more persons were involved.

Forensic analysis is also ongoing, the Command confirmed.

CP Bakori, who described the incident as disturbing, condoled with the family of the deceased and assured Kano residents that the case will not be swept under the carpet.

“The Kano State Police Command will not relent in its mandate to protect lives and property. We assure the good people of Kano that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion,” Bakori vowed.

The Command commended the Gaida Vigilante Group for its prompt report, saying it shows the power of community-police cooperation.

It also announced that additional patrols and intelligence operations have been deployed in Gaida and surrounding areas to prevent reprisals and restore calm.

The suspects are expected to be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

Danshagamu, known for his fierce political commentary on social media, was earlier reported to have been found in a pool of blood — a killing that sparked outrage from Amnesty International and civil society groups ahead of the 2027 elections.
