Photos: Troops Recover AK-47 Rifles Hidden in Enugu Forest by Kidnappers

Troops of 82 division garrison and 103 battalion of the Nigerian army have recovered four AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, and 133 rounds of ammunition belonging to a kidnapping syndicate in Enugu state.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the arms were recovered on August 10 at Umuchingu Ujenike Forest.

The publication said the troops were led to the hideout by suspected kidnappers, who were earlier arrested.

The recovery exercise was carried out after the rescue of two kidnapped victims and the arrest of a logistics supplier and two other suspected kingpins of the criminal syndicate terrorising Enugu, Abia, Anambra and neighbouring states.

During the exercise, troops recovered four AK-47 rifles, seven AK-47 magazines and 133 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the location.

On July 31, a joint military task force rescued Ofor Amobi, a senior army officer, and Ikechukwu Onwuanra, a civilian, after a 10-day search-and-rescue operation across forests and communities in Enugu state

The troops had combed through Inyi, Awlaw and Akpugo-Eze forests and adjoining communities in Oji River LGA of Enugu state.

In June, troops in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) raided suspected armouries belonging to the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Enugu state.
