Paul Pogba has been earning less than £2,000 per month at Juventus after being banned for a positive doping test.

WHAT HAPPENED?
After Juventus’ 3-0 victory over Udinese in Serie A in August 2023, Pogba underwent an anti-doping test and was found positive for the prohibited substance DHEA. The midfielder was slapped with a four-year ban from football but, following appeal, has had his ban reduced to just 18 months. Returning from the ban will also bring a huge financial windfall for Pogba who, according to Gazetta dello Sport, had been earning ‘minimum wage’ during his ban.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Pogba had been earning around €9 million per year at Juventus after joining as a free agent from Manchester United for the second time. However, despite the end of his ban, it is likely Pogba and Juventus will try to find a way to end his unsuccessful return to Italy early. Still only 31, Pogba will hope he can have at least one more spell at an elite club before hanging up his boots.

DID YOU KNOW?
Pogba is already eyeing a return to the pitch. He posted on X a photo of his boots on the grass, captioned with a sand timer, teasing a countdown to his comeback. Whether he will play for Juventus again or elsewhere, Pogba wants to prove he still has more to give.
WHAT NEXT FOR POGBA?
Once he has completed his time away from the game, Pogba will be desperate to get back on the pitch. First, the midfielder will have to come to some form of agreement with Juventus over his future at the club and Thiago Motta will have to consider if he wishes Pogba be part of his squad. What is clear, however, is that Pogba does not want to retire just yet.
