Oyo: Three Arrested over Alleged Murder of Six Family Members

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the alleged murder and robbery of a family of six – father, mother and four children – at Oloba Village in Lagelu Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Akinbami Ahmed, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all from Oloba Village, were arrested following credible intelligence received by the Command on October 2, 2026, in connection with the attack, which occurred on September 22 at about 7:00pm.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects invaded the residence of Ifeanyichukwu, his wife and their four children, armed with a locally-made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.

The suspects allegedly robbed the family of ₦200,000 cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.

During the attack, the police said Ahmed allegedly shot the husband, while Ojo and Edward attacked the wife and hit her on the head with a club, leading to her instant death.

The situation allegedly turned fatal when two of the children were tied by their hands and legs and thrown into a nearby river, while the remaining members of the family were also killed and their bodies dumped in the river.

The Command said detectives visited the scene, took photographs and recovered several exhibits, including the family’s Boxer motorcycle, one locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and the club allegedly used in the attack.

The three suspects were subsequently arrested and detained.

The police said the suspects confessed during interrogation to their involvement in the crime.

It added that the remains of the wife had been recovered, while efforts were ongoing to recover the remains of other victims allegedly dumped in the river.

The PPRO said that the suspects and case file had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further investigation and necessary legal action.

Commenting, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has directed a thorough investigation into the case and ordered that all persons found culpable be brought to justice.
