One person was injured on Monday morning when a vehicle exploded at the shoe materials market in the Mushin area of Lagos.
Speaking during a visit to the scene of incident, Fatai Tijani, Lagos commissioner of police, said the command received reports of the explosion and immediately deployed explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) operatives to the area.
NAN reports that Tijani said preliminary findings revealed that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted under a vehicle.

He said the device was beneath the passenger side of the vehicle and detonated when the engine was started, adding that one person sustained injuries and is currently in stable condition at the hospital.
“We promptly deployed our EOD team after receiving reports of an explosion. The area was cordoned off and thoroughly searched,” the police commissioner said.
“The IED was under the vehicle by the passenger side. It exploded when the vehicle was started.”
Tijani said remnants of the IED were recovered and taken for forensic examination.
Also speaking with journalists, Tajudeen Faronbi, the Baale of Oke Mushin community, said the incident occurred around 1am.
Faronbi said he immediately contacted the area commander, who, according to him, quickly mobilised officers to the area.
“Early this morning, around one o’clock, while I was praying, I received a call that something unusual had been seen,” Faronbi said.
“When I got there, I saw a vehicle and people were afraid to go near it.”
