Oman’s Ministry of Labour introduced a Special Work Permits service that allows employers to hire foreign workers across nine profession categories, with approvals processed within ten days of a completed application.
According to the Ministry of Labour’s official portal, the service is designed primarily for domestic workers and those in similar roles, enabling employers to submit permit applications, replace departing workers, and pay all associated fees electronically without visiting a government office in person.
Which Professions Qualify for the Oman Work Permit
The scheme covers a broad range of roles split across three fee tiers. The first group, charged at 101 Omani Riyals for one to three workers and 141 Omani Riyals for four or more, includes housekeepers, nannies, private drivers, gardeners, residential building guards, home health assistants, and private nurses.

A second group carries fees of 141 Omani Riyals for one to three workers and 241 Omani Riyals for four or more.
This group covers agricultural workers, camel herders, livestock herders, horse grooms, horse shoers, and horse riders.
Craft fishermen fall into a separate category entirely, with a flat fee of 201 Omani Riyals regardless of the number of workers being hired.
How the Application Process Works
The ten-day approval window applies only when all required documents and conditions listed in the ministry’s service guide have been met.
The online platform also allows employers to amend existing work permit data, process replacements for non-Omani workers who left the country within 90 days of arriving, and handle early departure cases where workers left before their permits were formally issued.
The ministry noted that fees listed cover both the recruitment licence and the registration of worker data, making the service a single point of processing for employers hiring foreign nationals in these roles.
For Nigerians and other Africans considering opportunities in Oman, the permit categories open pathways in household and care work, agriculture, and specialised trades, sectors where demand for non-Omani labour has remained steady.
Applicants and prospective employers can access the full service guide and requirements directly through the Ministry of Labour’s official website.
