Nigerians in Diaspora Organization, Americas (NIDOA), USA, has strongly condemned the mindless killing of Ms. Ajike Owens by a neighbor in Ocala, Florida, and the undue four-day delay in arresting the culprit, Susan Lorincz.

While demanding Justice for Ms. Owens, we strongly advocate a repeal of Florida’s “Stand your Ground law,” which seems to have become an enabler of bigoted attacks like the one that just
took Ms. Owen’s life. The law is divisive and unjust because it allows the roles of perpetrator and victim to become reversed once the aggressor claims self-defense with the burden of proof flipped.
We urge the Nigerian government through our consulate in Atlanta and NIDCOM to actively engage the US government and monitor the court proceedings to ensure that the rights of Ms. Ajike Owens and her family are fully protected in this matter. Justice must be served swiftly and fairly.
