NECO Results Delay Due to Failed Payment — Jigawa Govt

The Jigawa State Government has explained the delay in the release of National Examinations Council results for students in public schools across the state.

It could be recalled that the 2027 NECO results were released on Wednesday, September 24, 2027, by the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi.

Findings by PUNCH Online in Jigawa State, however, showed that students in public schools in the state could not access their results days after the national release.

Some students, parents and guardians in Dutse, Hadejia and Gumel, who spoke with our correspondent, lamented the delay, saying it had caused anxiety among candidates.

A student of Government Day Secondary School, Dutse, Ashiru Sani, said, “Since last Thursday when NECO released the results, we have been trying to check ours, but it is not showing. We are worried because our mates in private schools have seen theirs.”

Similarly, a parent in Takur-site, Malam Umar Garba, told PUNCH Online, “My two children wrote NECO in a public school. Up till now we have not seen their results. The government should come out and explain what is happening.”

Another guardian, Mrs Fatima Ali of Gida Dubu Quarters in Dutse, said, “We are appealing to the state government to intervene quickly. These children need their results for admission.”

Checks by PUNCH Online confirmed that the results of public school students were only recently released, days after the national release, leaving many candidates stranded.

When contacted by journalists on Tuesday, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Isa Chamo, explained the reason for the delay in releasing the students’ results.

Chamo attributed the delay to bank transaction issues, saying the funds deposited by the Jigawa State Government to NECO had bounced back.

“The delay is not intentional. The funds we deposited to NECO bounced back due to some bank transaction issues. Immediately we noticed the transaction failed; we took immediate steps to rectify it and reprocess the payment”, the commissioner explained.

According to him, everything had now been settled, and the situation was normal, as NECO had confirmed receipt of the payment. The commissioner assured that the students would be able to check their results on the NECO portal from 6 pm on Tuesday.

“By 6 pm today, all our students in public schools will be able to check their results on the NECO portal without any hitch,” he said.

He therefore appealed to parents, guardians and students to remain calm, assuring that the government remained committed to education. “No student will be left behind. The government of Governor Umar Namadi has paid all fees, and we have resolved all issues with NECO,” Chamo added.
