Chairman of the presidential advisory committee on minimum wage, Mr. Bismark Rewane, has said all the states in Nigeria have the capacity to pay the 30k minimum wage if they are willing to pay.
Speaking on a current affairs program, Politics Today, monitored on Channelstv on Thursday, Rewane maintained that with the available resources at the disposal of each state in the country, they have the capacity to pay.
On the argument that about 18 states of the federation are not paying, Rewane said it is a question of reordering their priorities.
“ Have they reduced the cars in their convoy. What are they doing with the security votes. It’s a question of reordering their priorities.”
Rewane explains that states like Rivers that was receiving N9billion monthly because of 13% derivation now receive monthly allocation in the region of N18billion.
Rewane cited the United States of America as an example, adding that by the time the $15 per hour new wage proposed by President Joe Biden materializes In June, an equivalent of four hours pay will be the total sum of 30k monthly in Nigeria.
