My Administration Has Achieved More in Housing Than Previous Govts, says Abiodun

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has claimed that no administration since the creation of the state has delivered affordable housing on the scale achieved by his government in the past seven years.

Abiodun made the claim in a statement posted on his X handle on Wednesday, while highlighting his administration’s housing interventions across different parts of the state.

The governor said his administration had deliberately positioned housing as a major component of its development agenda, arguing that the programme had not only provided homes for residents but also opened up new communities and stimulated economic activities.

He said, “Since the creation of Ogun State, no administration has delivered affordable housing on the scale we have achieved within this period. Across different parts of the State, we have developed housing estates and delivered thousands of housing units, providing decent homes for families while opening up new communities and stimulating economic activities.”

According to Abiodun, the government’s housing policy goes beyond providing shelter, with the projects designed to improve the quality of life of residents while creating employment and supporting businesses involved in the construction value chain.

He said, “For us, housing goes far beyond putting roofs over people’s heads. It is about creating liveable communities, providing dignity and security for families, generating employment for artisans and professionals, supporting local businesses, and creating lasting assets for our people.”

The governor listed the Prince Court Estate in Kobape, Kings Court Estate in Oke-Mosan, Kemta Idi-Aba Housing Estate, Ilaro Housing Estate and housing schemes in Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu and Iperu among the projects delivered under the administration.

Abiodun said the developments had demonstrated the government’s capacity to provide modern and functional homes while maintaining standards of quality and affordability.

He also said the housing projects had generated opportunities for workers and businesses across the construction sector, including engineers, architects, bricklayers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters and suppliers.

“Our housing revolution has also created opportunities across the entire construction value chain, from engineers and architects to bricklayers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, suppliers and thousands of other workers whose livelihoods have benefited from these investments,” he said.

Abiodun described the achievements of the past seven years as unprecedented in the history of Ogun State but said the government would continue to expand its investments in housing and urban development.

“What we have achieved in seven years is unprecedented in the history of our dear State, but we remain focused on doing even more,” the governor said.

He added that the administration would sustain its housing investments as part of efforts to build a more prosperous state, stressing that families deserved access to decent living environments while communities required adequate infrastructure to thrive.
