Motorists Advised to Avoid Anthony Village Service Lane as Lagos Begins Repairs (Video)

Motorists have been advised to avoid Anthony Village bus stop and its service lane as excavation work begins on the deteriorated section of the road.

The roadworks, which were ongoing on Sunday, are expected to cause traffic disruption for motorists coming from Fadeyi and those attempting to connect to the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Gbagada and other adjoining routes.

The affected road had reportedly been in poor condition for some time, with constant rainfall in Lagos worsening its state despite repeated repairs with asphalt.

Giving an update from the area, a citizen journalist said the Lagos State Government had now opted for what was described as a more permanent solution by excavating the affected section and replacing the asphalt surface with interlocking stones.

He said: “Good morning Lagosians, this is Anthony Village bus stop when you are coming from Fadeyi. Today is Sunday, the 2nd of August 2026, and excavation work is going on here on the service lane.

“This road has been bad for a while, exacerbated by the constant rain in Lagos.

“The government has been repairing this road with asphalt and whenever the rains come, it gets damaged again. Until the next cycle.

“So the Lagos State Government has decided to put a more permanent solution.

“They are excavating the place and they have decided to use interlocking stones, which is a lot better than the application of asphalt.”

The citizen journalist warned that the ongoing work would affect traffic movement, particularly for those travelling from Fadeyi and hoping to connect to the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway or Gbagada through Anthony.

He said: “So this is going to cause traffic dislocation in this area because many people are coming from Fadeyi hoping to link Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Gbagada from here.

“They cannot do that for now.

“Those coming on the service lane hoping to link Oshodi from here should avoid the service lane.

“They can go on the express and then link the road from the front.

“Those coming from Oshodi hoping to link Anthony, Ikorodu Road will also find it very difficult because there is no road for now.”

The situation is also not expected to change immediately, with motorists advised to plan their journeys ahead of time and avoid the affected area for the next one week.

“And to give you a heads up, the condition is not going to change in the next one week.

“So plan your trips and avoid Anthony Village bus stop.

“Avoid the service lane. 

“It’s going to cause a lot of dislocation around here. 

“Even the freeway will be affected.

“So it is better to avoid this place completely.

“This is a Sunday and you can imagine what will happen on Monday.”

Motorists travelling from Fadeyi towards Gbagada were advised to consider an alternative route through Pedro.

“Those who are planning to access Gbagada Expressway from Fadeyi, it’s better for them to take a detour to Pedro and link the express from there.

“Don’t come to Anthony at all because a more permanent solution is coming here.”
