Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has spoken about the financial responsibilities many successful Africans carry toward their extended families.

According to Mikel, in many African societies, financial success often comes with expectations that go far beyond supporting one’s immediate household.

He said that when a person becomes wealthy, siblings, extended relatives, and even in-laws may come to depend on them financially.

Using Victor Osimhen as an example, Mikel suggested that the striker experiences similar pressures.

He added that when successful individuals are no longer able or willing to provide financial assistance, they are often perceived negatively by those who had relied on them.

Mikel said in part …

“In Africa, when you make money, it’s not just yours it belongs to the whole family depending on you. Your siblings, their in-laws, everyone depends on you. Victor Osimhen faces the same thing. The moment you stop helping, you become the bad guy”
