The Nasarawa State Police Command has detained a 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, for allegedly beating his 20-year-old wife to death in Angwan Yahaya, Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Rahman Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lafia.

Nansel said a complaint was lodged at the Agyaragu Police Division around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday alleging that the suspect assaulted his wife, leading to her death.

The couple had been married for six years and had two children.

According to him, the Divisional Police Officer deployed patrol personnel to the scene, and the victim was evacuated to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, for medical examination and preservation.

“During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to committing the act. He stated that he acted out of anger after the deceased allegedly refused to prepare food. An argument ensued, which escalated into a physical altercation that ultimately resulted in her death,” Nansel said.

The suspect has also expressed remorse over the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for thorough investigation.

“The Commissioner assured the public that justice would be served and that the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the PPRO stated.

He condemned all forms of domestic violence, describing the incident as “tragic and avoidable,” and urged couples to embrace dialogue and lawful means of resolving disputes.

“The Command assures residents that the situation in Agyaragu and its environs remains calm and under control,” Nansel added.
