Senator Jimoh Ibrahim on Tuesday formally presented his letter of credence to António Guterres, officially accrediting him as the Permanent Representative Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Nations.
The ceremony took place at the United Nations Secretariat in New York City, marking the formal commencement of Ibrahim’s diplomatic assignment as Nigeria’s top envoy to the global body.
With the presentation of credentials, Ibrahim is now empowered to represent Nigeria at the UN, participate in high-level diplomatic engagements, and advance the country’s positions on international peace, security, development, climate change, and multilateral cooperation.
His appointment comes at a critical time as Nigeria seeks stronger global partnerships, expanded economic opportunities, and greater influence in international affairs.

Observers say Ibrahim’s new role places him at the center of Nigeria’s foreign policy engagements, especially on issues affecting Africa, regional security, sustainable development, and reform of global institutions.
Nigeria remains one of Africa’s most influential members of the United Nations and has consistently played key roles in peacekeeping operations, democratic advocacy, and continental diplomacy.
