Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has announced her resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing alleged marginalisation and exclusion from party activities in Ogun State.

In a statement released on Monday, the former lawmaker expressed dissatisfaction with what she described as persistent unfair treatment and a lack of inclusiveness within the party’s structure in the state.

According to Obasanjo, she and her supporters were repeatedly excluded from key political activities and decision-making processes despite years of commitment and loyalty to the APC.

She alleged that influential figures within the party consistently worked against her political aspirations, creating an environment that made meaningful participation difficult.

The former senator stated that several efforts to address her concerns through internal party channels failed to produce the desired outcome.

“It has become increasingly difficult to remain in a political party where fairness, equity, and inclusiveness are no longer guaranteed,” she said, noting that the decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters, and family members.

Obasanjo maintained that her resignation was based on principle rather than personal ambition. She emphasized the importance of equal treatment for all party members and called for greater inclusiveness in political organisations.

Iyabo Obasanjo previously represented Ogun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly and has remained active in public and political affairs over the years.

Her departure from the APC comes amid ongoing political realignments and defections across the country as politicians reposition ahead of future electoral contests.

As of the time of filing this report, the APC had not issued an official response to her resignation.
