The Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland to Nigeria, Peter Ryan, has pledged full support for the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit.

The sixth edition of the summit kicked off in Abuja on Monday with pitching sessions for upcoming and start-up businesses.

Ryan who spoke at the event noted that with the many talents in Nigeria, he was ready to encourage and support in this direction.

He said, “Any time the Diasporans gather to connect, I think it is worthwhile and an interesting time for Nigerians in the Diaspora.

“I am very impressed with what I have seen and impressed with what I have heard. Not surprising at all. I learnt from Nigerians in the Diaspora in Ireland that there are so many talented and motivated people ready to work with partners at home and also with partners around the world.

“We can do anything to support and encourage that and we know from our Diasporans, the important role that they can play as a partner in national initiatives. I am delighted to be part of this. I have learned a lot already.

The Chairman applauded the pitching session of the summit which, she said will open doors for upcoming and existing small businesses to connect with investors abroad.

“It is about how you can get money for your businesses and we have those in the Diaspora who are employing people here.

“You do not have to be physically present. Some people are earning money online through them.

“As we look forward to that, we are saying we want to have Diaspora Direct Investment. You know, it is slow and steady but we are still doing it. You can see the passion in the country.”

“Diasporans are investing already, particularly in the Health care industry, ICT, food business, and education. So we are happy with what we have seen here today,” Dabiri-Erewa added.
