A handwritten note left at the crime scene has exposed the killers of retired OGTV broadcaster Olakitan Oyesiku

Ogun State Police have arrested three suspects, including a 22-year-old ex-security guard who said the murder was to “teach her a lesson.”

—Double murder in Owode-Egba–

Oyesiku, a veteran of Ogun State Television, and her security guard Pelumi Adetayo were found dead at her Owode-Egba residence on 21 June. Her Lexus RX 330 was missing.

Owode-Egba Police got a report around 4 p.m. on 21 June about a partially damaged front door and a locked security house.

Officers found Adetayo dead in the security post, and Oyesiku’s body in the living room of the main building.

–“Handwritten note generated valuable leads”–

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni said the stolen Lexus was traced and recovered a day later through intelligence and technical tracking at Onikolobo.

A critical breakthrough: a handwritten note apparently left behind by the perpetrators. Forensic examination of the note gave detectives key leads to identify and trace those responsible.

Police also recovered the vehicle’s registration plate hidden under a seat, confirming it belonged to Oyesiku.

Other exhibits recovered included a broken hammer, cutlass, plank, and black pen.

–Ex-guard recruited the hitmen–

CP Ojajuni announced arrests on Thursday at Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Prime suspect: 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, arrested 24 June at a construction site in Ibara GRA where he worked as a labourer.

Philip confessed and told investigators he recruited Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer. All three are now in custody.

His motive, according to police: grievances from when he worked as a security guard for Oyesiku.

“The murder was intended to ‘teach her a lesson’,” Ojajuni quoted him.

Philip said they struck on 20 June, overpowered Adetayo first, used him to gain entry, then attacked and killed Oyesiku before killing the guard. They fled with the Lexus.

—Investigation ongoing—

Ojajuni stressed that while suspects have confessed and evidence is substantial, due process still applies.

Detectives are expanding the investigation to consolidate evidence for diligent prosecution.

For Ogun residents, the arrest ends days of fear after the brutal killing of a beloved broadcaster.

For the police, the handwritten note proved that killers often leave their own trail.

Justice for Olakitan Oyesiku and Pelumi Adetayo is next, the command assured.
