Borno State Commissioner of health, Dr Salihu Kwayabura, has been sacked.

Newspot understands that Governor Babagana Umara Zulum‘s led government relieved the commissioner of his position on Monday, February 1, 2021.

Confirming the development on Tuesday in Maiduguri, the state capital, Malam Isa Gusau, Special Adviser on Public Relations and Strategy to Governor Zulum, said the decision was part of the governor’s effort to reposition the ministry.

Gusau quoted the governor to have expressed gratitude to Dr Salihu Kwayabura for his immense contributions to the development of Borno’s public health sector throughout his years of service to the state.

Newspot understands that Governor Zulum in this regard, directed his chief of staff, Professor Isa Hussani Marte, who is a professor of pharmacology, a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science with a speciality in cancer research, to oversee the state’s ministry of health pending the appointment of a substantive commissioner.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government condemned those calling for the International Criminal Court to probe the former Service Chiefs, describing such calls as unpatriotic.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had last week accepted the resignation of ex-service chiefs —General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin (Chief of Defence Staff); Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (Chief of Army Staff); Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (Chief of Naval Staff); and Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Chief of Air Staff) and replaced them with new service chiefs.
