Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun has blamed some sections of the conventional media and the social media for the escalation of ethnic tension threatening the unity of the country.

Governor Dapo, who spoke with State House correspondents after meeting President Buhari in Abuja, noted that the media had consistently been publishing fake news to stir up emotions and cause disharmony among the tribes that make up the country.

He said part of the problems realized was ethnic profiling, adding that criminals should be viewed as criminals since they abound in every ethnic group.

According to Governor Abiodun, the effect of fake news has prevented the people from differentiating between criminals and the ethnic groups they belong to, hence the need to enlighten the public that blanket perception could be catastrophic.

The Governor fell short of calling for the sanctioning of the section of the conventional media beating the drums war and the perpetrators of fake news on the social but said it was surprising for supposedly decent people to indulge in such evil machinations.

He drew the attention of the merchant’s doom in the media that they had no other country than Nigeria, and implored them to practice responsible journalism.

Governor Abiodun expressed the hope that the country’s porous borders and forests would be properly managed to prevent foreign bandits from cross-border criminality.
