The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, CREDICORP, has launched a USSD platform that allows Nigerians to access loans and build credit history without smartphone or internet.

The service, codenamed SPARK, is targeted at first-time borrowers and Nigerians with little or no formal credit record.

To access it, users are to dial _347_333# on any mobile phone.

CREDICORP said SPARK simplifies consumer credit access and enables beneficiaries to create verifiable repayment records that can improve their creditworthiness and unlock bigger financial opportunities.

According to the corporation, the product will become more widely available across the country before the end of 2026.

The platform was launched in Aba, Abia State, at CREDICORP’s ‘CREDICORP for All’ showcase, which featured affordable credit opportunities for over 1,000 residents, including market women, traders, youths and transport operators.

The event also showcased locally assembled tricycles available on credit under its S.C.A.L.E. – Securing Consumer Access for Local Enterprises – initiative.

Speaking at the event, CREDICORP MD/CEO, Uzoma Nwagba, said consumer credit must not remain a privilege for the few.

“Consumer credit should not be a privilege reserved for a few. It should be an opportunity available to every working Nigerian,” Nwagba said.

“This is how we make credit work for the people.”

Representing Governor Alex Otti, his Chief Principal, Chinenye Mba-Uzoukwu, said Abia State is creating an enabling environment for enterprise and responsible credit to thrive.

MOFI Managing Director and CREDICORP board member, Armstrong Ume Takang, said the initiative shows how Federal Government policies are translating to real economic impact for citizens.

CREDICORP disclosed that it has so far facilitated over N53.5 billion in consumer credit for more than 351,000 Nigerians, with women making up about 59% of beneficiaries.
