Today marks a significant milestone in Nigerian history as the Federal Ministry of Defence and Federal Ministry of Steel Development initiate the long-awaited revival of the Ajaokuta Steel Company. In a meeting held at the Ministry of Defence, Dr. Matawalle and his counterpart, the Honourable Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, deliberated on a proposed partnership to harness the potential of Ajaokuta Steel Company for the production of military hardware. Both parties have unanimously agreed to formalize this collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

“It is disheartening how Nigeria is spending billions of dollars annually on importing military hardware,” – Dr. Matawalle.
Under the auspices of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), the Ministry of Defence will work in tandem with the Federal Ministry of Steel Development to breathe new life into the dormant Ajaokuta Steel Company. This collaborative effort not only promises to enhance national security but also to stimulate economic growth by generating millions of employment opportunities for Nigerians.
