FG Launches Portal for Online Birth, Death Certificate Applications

The Federal Government has introduced a new digital platform that allows Nigerians to register births and  deaths, apply for certificates and access other civil registration services online without visiting a registration centre first.

The platform, known as VitalReg, was launched by the National Population Commission (NPC) as part of efforts to make civil registration easier and reduce the challenges associated with the traditional process.

The new system enables Nigerians to complete services such as birth registration, death registration, birth attestation, correction of registration details and certificate verification through an online portal.

With the introduction of the platform, applicants can now begin the process from their homes, reducing long queues, paperwork and the need for repeated visits to registration offices.

To use the service, Nigerians are required to visit the NPC VitalReg self-service portal and select the type of service they need. Applicants will then provide their personal and registration details while ensuring that the information supplied matches available documents.

After completing the required steps, users can submit their applications and track or verify their requests through the platform where applicable.

The NPC advised applicants to carefully review their information before submission to prevent mistakes that may require further corrections.

For Nigerians who may experience difficulties using the online platform, assistance is available at NPC registration centres across the country.

The commission said the digital civil registration system would improve access to important identity documents, which are often needed for services such as education, healthcare, passports, financial transactions and government programmes.
