Determined to help Nigerians wade through the current economic crisis, the federal government has approved the provision of N5 billion grant to each of the 36 states of the federation to procure grains for distribution to  mitigate the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

Borno state governor, Professor  Babagana Zulum, disclosed this while addressing State House Correspondents alongside five other governors on the outcome of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa,  Abuja on Thursday.

He said it was part of measures taken by the government to bring temporary solutions to the high cost of living caused by the fuel  subsidy removal as government continued to work with more enduring programmes.

Zulum said the state governments  are to purchase 100,000 bags of rice and beans among other items for distribution to citizens.

The governor  revealed that each of the 36 states of the federation is to receive five trucks of rice and other items for distribution to citizens. 

Also speaking at the briefing, Anambra state governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo said that the efforts of both federal and state governments were geared towards improving the lives of Nigerians, adding that the end  game of every government policy is to improve the welfare of citizens.
