The Federal Government on Tuesday extended condolences to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China following a deadly explosion at a fireworks factory in Hunan Province that claimed dozens of lives and left many others injured.

A massive blast at the Huasheng Fireworks plant in Liuyang City, Hunan Province, on Monday afternoon reportedly killed at least 26 people and injured 61 others, according to Chinese state media reports cited by the BBC.

Emergency authorities in China said rescue operations have been concluded after search teams combed through the wreckage for survivors. Seven people were rescued from debris with the assistance of dogs, drones and robots.

Following the explosion, authorities evacuated residents within a three-kilometre radius of the facility. More than 1,500 emergency responders were deployed to the scene to contain the situation and support rescue efforts.

Reaffirming bilateral ties, the ministry noted that “Nigeria reaffirms its enduring friendship with China and its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, both in times of progress and adversity.”
