EFCC Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have ran for their dear lives after being chased by soldiers. According to Politics Nigeria, the incident happened as the EFCC operatives came to mark some seized properties belonging to the director of Finance in the ONSA, Brig.-Gen. Jafaru Mohammed. A Federal High Court in Abuja on Mach 9 granted an ex-parte application brought by the EFCC for an interim forfeiture over some properties linked to Mohammed, Daily Trust reports. The EFCC was also ordered to publicise the interim forfeiture of the assets and invite people “who may have interest in the assets and properties listed in the schedule to show cause, within 14 days of such publication, why a final order of forfeiture to the Federal Government of Nigeria of the said assets and properties should not be made.”

Eyewitness reports reveal that there was a stand-off between EFCC operatives and military men in plain cloth and uniform at one of the assets located in Sun City estate. In one of the properties situated at No 25, Osaka Street, over 20 uniformed and plain-clothed soldiers resisted attempts by the EFCC to mark the house. Speaking on the incident, Brigadier General Mohammed’s lawyer, Barr. Omokayode Adebayo Dada maintained that the EFCC, according to Nigeria’s law, has no powers to investigate a serving military officer. “Anything that has to do with a serving military officer, you dare not go by EFCC and say you have powers. Everything EFCC did was premised on the foundation of illegality. The man is a graduate and learned person, he knows the law that governs him”.
