SCRIPTURES

Proverbs 30 v 17: “The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.”
Proverbs 23 v 22: “Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.”
Proverbs 15 v 20: “A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.”
Proverbs 15 v 5: “A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.”
Proverbs 13 v 1: “A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not
rebuke.”

EXHORTATION

  1. HONOUR YOUR PARENTS
    Ephesians 6 v 1 – 4
v.1 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.”
v.2 “Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)”
v.3 “That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.”
v.4 “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”

One of the success secrets in life is to honour both your NATURAL and SPIRITUAL parents until the very end. God knows that many fathers do not live up to standard; however, He expects a certain measure of honour to flow from the children to the fathers.

Honour your father even when it feels impossible. Honour him based on God’s word whether or not he deserves or earns your respect. By honouring your father, you are really honouring God.
You are submitting to the will of God and trusting in God’s wisdom over your own will and understanding.

Honour your father because God has placed him in a place of Authority. Malachi 1 v 6
Rom. 8 v 33: “Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.”

“A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?”

I have resolved to honour my father in the Lord even in the midst of betrayals and attacks.
Please decide not to attack your spiritual father in this life, do not destroy your future. No matter how evil a father may seem to be, leave him to God. It is not a sin to see your father’s nakedness, but it is a curse to expose him.

  1. LESSONS FROM DAVID AND KING SAUL
    1 Sam. 24 v 6, 8, 11
v.6 “And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD’S anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.”
v.8 “David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.”
v.11 “Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.”
David constantly reminded himself that he was dealing with an anointed king. David’s respect for Saul’s office was maintained until the very end. What you say about your Boss will happen to you.
    2 Sam. 1 v 19 & 24
  2. CONSEQUENCES OF VIOLATING YOUR FATHER
Prov. 20 v 20: “Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.”
Gal. 6 v 7: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
2 Tim. 4 v 10 – 18: v.10 “For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.”
v.11 “Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.”
v.12 “And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus.”
v.13 “The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.”
v.14 “Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works”
v.19 “The beauty of Israel is slain on your high places! How the mighty have fallen!”
v.24 “O daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, Who clothed you in scarlet, with luxury; Who put ornaments of gold on your apparel.”

David spoke well of Saul despite his shortcoming. Do not strike at the Lord’s Anointed.
2 Cor. 5 v 16: “Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.”

Rom. 14 v 4: “Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.”
Learn to keep a spiritual perspective of the person you are dealing with. It will keep you on safe ground.

Respect both the humanity and divinity of your father.
v.15 “Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words.” v.16 “At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.”
v.17 “Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.”
v.18 “And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory forever and ever.” Amen.

CONSEQUENCES

  1. Violating your Spiritual father will provoke curses.
  2. It will bring to you shame, dishonour and mockery.
  3. It will bring to you spiritual dryness.
  4. It will bring upon you, wrath with no remedy. 2 Chr. 36 v 16: “But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.”
  5. Don’t hurt your spiritual father in words and action because you will be disconnected from His Grace.
  6. Don’t ever look down on your spiritual father, he is not your grace mate no matter his physical stature.
  7. Violating your spiritual father removes covering from you.
  8. The battle against your spiritual father is a battle you can never win no matter who
    is backing you up.
  9. Listen to this; you can never erase the man whom God used to raise you up. If you
try, you will injure your destiny and commit spiritual suicide.
  10. Also, you cannot embarrass the father who trained, prepared and endorsed you for
Ministry in life. That embarrassment will backfire on you seven-fold.
  11. If you embarrass your father who gave you platform; platforms will no longer be
    available to you again.
  12. If you protest against your spiritual father, the host of heaven will protest against
    you.
  13. Don’t ever try to destroy the spiritual breast that nourished you with the milk of
life in Ministry. It is a taboo.
  14. Any warfare you raised against your spiritual father will distort your own welfare in
    life and Ministry.
  15. Resenting your spiritual father who invested so much in you will jeopardise your
    progress in life and ministry.
  16. Don’t expose the nakedness of your father, remember that Noah found grace with God (Gen. 1 v 8) but Ham found disgrace for exposing his father. His son Canaan was cursed. Don’t prepare curses for your children.
  17. Spiritual fathers make mistakes. Allow God to deal with them in His own way and time. It is not within your power to do so, otherwise, you will injure yourself. Remember that God respects priesthood anyday and anytime.
  18. Bishop Irabor Wisdom of Answers Assembly Warri, Nigeria wrote this and I quote “…The Seal of Apostleship is stronger that the Zeal of Discipleship. In case you decide to continue this fight against your spiritual father, always remember that some fathers are like Apostle Paul who is endowed with the Apostolic and Prophetic Grace to handover rebels to the devil so as to be punished for a season in order to learn how not to blaspheme against the servants of God.”
2 Tim. 4 v 14: “Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works”
1 Tim.1 v 18 – 20: v.18 “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare”
v.19 “Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck”
v.20 “Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.”
  19. LISTEN TO GOOD ADVICE
    1 Sam. 25 v 32 & 33
v.32 “And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meet me”
v.33 “And blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself with mine own hand.”
Bad advice will ruin you and your future. Beware of Ahitophel – The bad adviser to Absalom
2 Sam.15 v 31: “Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall
    go before thy face.”
1 Sam. 26 v 9: “And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD’S anointed, and be guiltless?”

Leave everything to God and keep your hands clean.

  1. BEWARE OF THOSE WHO ARE REBELLIOUS AGAINST YOUR SPIRITUAL FATHER
1 John 2 v 19: “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.”
2 Tim. 4 v 10 & 14: v.10 “For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.”
v.14 “Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works”
Psalm 68 v 6: “God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.”
2 Chronicles 36 v 16: “But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.”
Prov. 19 v 5 & 9: v.5 “A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.”
v.9 “A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.”

“And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.”
Allow God to work things out. Remember that Justice and Judgment are the habitations of God.
Psalm 89 v 14
v.19 “The lip of truth shall be established forever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.”

  2. HOW TO MAKE YOUR SPIRITUAL FATHER HAPPY
Prov. 15 v 20: “A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.”

HOW TO RECONCILE WITH YOUR SPIRITUAL FATHER

Advertisements
  1. Luke 15 v 11 – 32 (The Parable of the Prodigal Son)
Make use of the Biblical Prodigal Son Parable Model. Allow the Holy Spirit to minister repentance and reconciliation to your heart. Stop listening to miserable encouragers asking you not to reconcile with your father.
Job 16 v 2: “I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.”
  2. You may need to reach out to him first, maybe through his wife, intimate friends in Ministry.
  3. Go with your spouse. (If you are married)
  4. Go with Peace offering.
Lev. 3 v 3: “And he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace offering an offering made by fire unto the LORD; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards.”
Hearken to the command of God and obey His directives.
  5. Go with the heart of Penitence. Don’t get there and be arguing on the past wrongs. Listen very carefully and apologize sincerely.
  6. Have a plan to rebuild the trust lost and healthy relationship.
  7. Commit everything into the hand of God.
