Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has warned that Oyo State will face unrest if there is any attempt to dethrone the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

Igboho issued the warning in a trending video clip by Oyo Affairs, seen on Friday, amid reports of a plot against the monarch.

He said any governor who tries to remove Ladoja would provoke strong resistance.

“They will declare a state of emergency. If any governor tries it, it is from Soka here that this state would be shaking,” he said.

He queried the rationale behind such a plot, insisting the Olubadan, as an indigene, deserves respect.

“Why will you remove Olubadan? All of us are from Oyo State,” he added.

Igboho also dismissed rumours of a plan to ambush the monarch, warning that no one should attempt to intimidate him in his domain.

“When someone told me that they said they were going to waylay Olubadan, I said no one dare try such. It should remain a gossip. You cannot go and ambush him. Even when he is not yet Olubadan, you dare not, not to talk of now that he is on that seat.

“One million of you dare not try it. If you attempt it, you will run away from the government house. How will you say you want to ambush Olubadan at his home? It should remain a gossip,” he said.

He said he has told the monarch to be at ease.

“I have told Olubadan, ‘Baba, sleep and snore. There is no one that can come and meet you in your house. We are all indigenes of Oyo State. May Olubadan live long,” Igboho said.

The PUNCH had reported on April 13, 2026, that former Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose, alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde was planning to dethrone Ladoja over his absence from a planned coronation of high chiefs.

The claim was denied by the state Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, who said government never contemplated such action, while Ladoja’s media aide, Adeola Oloko, said there was no rift between the monarch and the governor.

The controversy later expanded to include allegations that Ladoja was involved in talks over the 2027 governorship succession and a purported plot to impeach Makinde, which the monarch denied.

On April 17, the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, disclosed that Ibadan elders had waded in and advised the Olubadan to stay above partisan politics and remain a father figure to all.
